John Oliver is a long standing news pundit drawn from the same cloth as those like Stephen Colbert and Jon Stewart. He is a snarky pundit who critiques trending cultural issues. Most of his segments are GENERALLY left leaning and propagandistic, making broad generalizations masked in humor.
Sometimes this comes across as rather awkward, especially when a segment goes against the current narrative. Right now, the narrative is that election fraud simply does not exist. At least, that’s what the media would like to tell you. Some going as far as saying this was “the most secure election in history”.
Interestingly enough, media pundit John Oliver did a good job covering the issue of voting machines in this segment – he asks some very important questions. Generally speaking, we’ve never questioned our basic assumptions that elections are properly counted, take a look:
“John Oliver discusses how voting machines work, how they don’t, and how we can fix them.”
At least he was honest about questioning voter integrity a year ago. He specifies electronic voting machines as “the absolute worst” method for counting votes, mostly due to security. In his official response, John attempts to pigeon-hole his complaint and reserve it for specific DRE voting machines.
This specification, unfortunately, cannot explain the broad generalizations he made earlier in his segment. Here was his response:
It appears John got caught being honest in 2019 and is trying to revise his original segment. To see the difference between his Tweet response and the segment itself, just watch the segment. He discussed MANY legitimate issues and concerns with voting machines, not just the DRE units. He went out of his way earlier in the segment to say digital voting was “the absolute worst” method.
