Learning how to create a user in Windows 10 without an e-mail address can be tricky. The latest version of Microsoft’s operating system does not like users creating their own login profile without having it connected to Microsoft. As a result, Microsoft locks out many of the essential Windows 10 features when you decide to bypass the Microsoft account requirement for user creation.
As stated previously, there are certain benefits that come with connecting your user profile to a Microsoft account.
However, creating a user in Windows 10 without an e-mail address has its benefits. Firstly, many users may not require an e-mail address. For example, if you have a daughter or son there are no reasons they would need an e-mail address with their user account. Secondly, many users have no interest in the features included with the e-mail account and simply want quick access to their PC. For example, if I just want to auto-login on startup and have a user without a password.
Whatever your reason, it’s important to know that bypassing the Microsoft E-mail address requirement can be done. You simply need to follow some uncomfortable prompts and hidden clicks to get there.
Benefits You Miss Out On When Learning How To Create A User In Windows 10 Without An E-mail
As stated previously, there are certain benefits that come with connecting your user profile to a Microsoft account. Here is a list of the primary benefits included with the Microsoft Windows 10 operating system that you might miss out on if you decide to create a user in Windows 10 without an e-mail address:
- Settings Sync Across All Windows Devices (Theme, Internet Explorer, Passwords, Language Preferences, etc.)
- App Downloads From The Microsoft Store
- Cortana Limitations On Voice And Search Control
- OneDrive Shared Cloud Drive Storage
- Built-In App Features And Updates
The Windows 10 operating system comes packaged with nearly everything users will want or need. However, if you desired any of the features listed above then you will want to make sure you take advantage of using a Microsoft account with your copy of Windows 10.
Are You Really Missing Out?
The Setting synchronization might not seem all that great unless you are tied in with the Microsoft ecosystem on tablet and desktop environments. They might also not be beneficial if you only have one computer. App downloads may be a major setback if you’re planning on downloading apps from the Microsoft Store. It’s important to note that Apps are not the same as installing 3rd party software programs from a disk, USB drive or download.
Cortana limitations really depend on how much you utilize voice command style features. I personally utilize Siri multiple times on a daily basis, so naturally I have an Apple account to make sure I have access to Siri for those types of voice commands.
OneDrive is possibly one of the biggest benefits of the Windows 10 operating system. As of the writing of this blog post, users get 15 GB of free shared cloud storage through their Microsoft account.
OneDrive is possibly one of the biggest benefits of the Windows 10 operating system. As of the writing of this blog post, users get 15 GB of free shared cloud storage through their Microsoft account. The great thing about OneDrive is that it nicely integrates with essential software packages such as Office 365. What this means for you is regular cloud-based backups of your documents and access to them remotely.
Finally, built in Microsoft Windows 10 app features and updates really depend on your desire to use those Apps. Many of the native Windows 10 Apps will be continually updated through the Microsoft Store. I recently also published a lesson covering how to quickly update Microsoft Store Apps on Windows 10.
Obviously, the major trade-off is loss of privacy. As with any cloud-based service you will be relinquishing your account and usage behavior to Microsoft to use as they please. Generally speaking most data collection services only use this data for targeted advertising and product improvements. However, that doesn’t mean they will always be used in that manner.
