OneDrive is Microsoft’s Google Drive service. With OneDrive, your data storage is in the cloud. The reason this is beneficial is that you can access those files from anywhere and if one of your devices fail, then you can quickly restore those files onto any new device. OneDrive typically enables by default on Windows 10.
Does OneDrive Require A Microsoft Account?
You do require a Microsoft account for this feature to be enabled. The good news is you can use any email address to create a Microsoft account. You do not need a Microsoft Outlook email address for the OneDrive feature. I created a Microsoft account using my Gmail email address. The second method for backing up critical system files is to do it manually. Now I’m a big fan of doing this because you have a physical copy on hand. It is also a far more secure method. Let’s say you have sensitive information, such as bank account information or accounting data.
If this data is not something you should put on the cloud. For instances like this, it’s best to copy and paste your user folder on to a USB drive or external hard drive.
