Hello friends. It’s been awhile since I last wrote. This has been 100% due to the fact that most of my evenings were completely monopolized by time being spent working part time as a technology sales associate for Office Depot. As a self admitted Apple fanatic, it was sometimes hard to work in this store because they are so very anti-Apple.
This from what I’ve been told dates back to the very beginnings this retail corporation. I am not positive how the story goes other than someone at Apple did something at the very last minute to squash a deal and the rest is history. This sounds absolutely believable to me. Even in today’s market; I can completely see Apple doing something like that.
So for the past month each time that I have been at work I’ve had to endure all the questions about the upcoming new operating system from Microsoft. Something called, Windows 8. You may have heard of it?
In my last two weeks I was able to pass the final test and become Windows 8 certified. I will admit that I think that this is a different certification that goes out to retail employees. At any rate I will be receiving a free copy of Windows 8 Professional.
As part of my certification I also had to attend a two hour seminar on the software. So basically I’m telling you guys all of this to set up the rest of this article. I’m going to let everyone know that even though I am an Apple fanatic. I am 100% impressed and excited about the all new Windows 8.
4 Features You Might Love In Windows 8:
There are already countless articles written about Windows 8. The big word that you must be stated here is “different”. Everyone is talking about how different the new operating system will be. This is very true. Windows 8 is unlike any of it’s previous versions. It’s almost completely re-imagined.
When I write I try and not clutter up my articles with all the extreme details. As I stated before; there are many other places to go and find out all of that. I have thought long and hard about what may be the top 5 reasons someone may love Windows 8. So here we go.
1. You can touch it
Windows 8 has been built from the ground up to take advantage of touch. Much like you are probably already doing with your smartphones and notebooks. Their are going to be all kinds of new devices hitting the market very soon that will be built to take full advantage of the new touch interface.
2. It’s Windows, simplified
Yes, Windows 8 has been redesigned and is completely different than anything we have seen from Microsoft so far. However, after you begin using the new operating system I strongly believe that you will realize just how simplified your day to day task have become.
With the ability to pin websites, apps, and much more to your main screen; Windows 8 really breaks down a lot of the head ache and gives you exactly what you need. The customization options really give you a feeling of making Windows unique to you and your needs.
3. It’s Integrated
Do you own a Microsoft X-Box gaming console? Have you noticed anything different in the last few days? That’s right. Your X-box Live screens look a whole lot like Windows 8. This is the same thing that happens if you are using a Windows phone or tablet. It all is designed to work the same way. Microsoft also have created two new features that can be very useful for users that are constantly looking for the latest and greatest media.
You now have the options of buying in to Xbox Music and Xbox Video. Both of these new services do not even require you to own an Xbox. You can buy in to the services and watch movies or listen to endless music straight from your Windows 8 devices. Pretty cool if you ask me. I just recently used Xbox Video to catch up on the premier of a great new television show called, “Arrow”.
This is a much appreciated feature in my opinion. The ability to go back for very little money and watch a current show after it originally airs; it’s fantastic for people like me that sometimes forget to set my DVR to record things. Another added bonus to this is that you also much like Apple’s iTunes have the ability to buy a complete season pass. So you will never again miss a single episode of your favorite show.
4. Internet Explorer 10
I have not used Internet Explorer in years, but if you are one of the many that still do relay on it for your internet browser needs then you’re in luck and will be happy to know that the latest version comes pre-installed on every copy of Windows 8.
IE 10 looks to be a very solid browser that has been once again rebuilt to take full advantage of the Windows 8 architecture and functionality. Speed and security are the two key players in Internet Explorer 10. This will help the non computer savvy users to feel more secure when it comes to using the internet. For many users they strictly want to stick with that they know; now they can with the new Internet Explorer 10.
I personally am excited for Windows 8. That’s coming from a guy that uses primarily all Apple devices. I think that it could be make or break time for Microsoft and for technology enthusiasts everywhere I am truly hoping that Windows 8 is a success. I think that Microsoft should have done something like this a few years earlier, but better late than never. I guess we shall see.
What do you think about Windows 8? Have you upgraded yet? Let us know. We love hearing from you.
